The Gambia Schools’ Project
Building Futures in The Gambia (BFiG) registered with the UK Charity Commission in 2014 (Charity No. 1159520). It is a collaboration between UK teaching professionals/students/schools and schools/local communities/educators in The Gambia.
Whilst engaging with Gambian officials and schools to address needs, BFiG also focuses on the Global Dimension in Education. Liaising with the local community, BFiG prioritises sustainable initiatives, aiming to maximise the impact of every contribution.
BFiG has undertaken various projects such as curriculum development, library construction, and sanitation improvements, guided by Gambian schools’ development plans. In 2011, BFiG built and resourced a library at Makumbaya Lower Basic School. The library was subsequently provided with solar power. In 2013, BFiG built a third classroom and completed the toilet for Bright Star Nursery School in Old Yundum Village.
In 2014, upon the official establishment of BFiG as a registered charity, and with advice from local community members, it was decided to focus completely upon the construction and operation of a three-classroom nursery school in Busumbala Village.
